hooded baby sweater

i finished another hand knit cardigan for a little friend's first birthday modifying this great pattern just slightly so that i could make the body completely seamless. notice the use of the contrasting white again? baby sweaters are a perfect way to use up leftover yarn. i had just enough wool-ease in both the rose and natural heather.

but i'm afraid it's not going to fit and wish i could figure out if it will without ruining the surprise. i tried to dig through the baby clothes to see if i could compare it to anything i had on hand, but couldn't find a sweater, small jacket or sweatshirt in this size. anyone know of a chart online that would tell you such things?

  2. Beautiful sweater! What a lucky friend!
There are lots of size charts with measurements - I like the one on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_standard_clothing_size) Scroll down about halfway for the toddlers/babies sizes.

More charts, in the tabs on the left. The sweater is gorgeous. Well done!

  4. That is the most adorable hoodie ever! But I do not know any way for you to figure out if it will fit.

  5. hard to say about the sizing, it all depends on the baby herself, right? leon was able to fit into my brother's 6m knit hooded sweater until he was 14 months, but he's always been a skinny baby. i love love the sweater, it's like strawberries and cream.

  6. that sweater is so darling!! From what I gather from moms, apparently size guidelines are a pretty rough shot in the dark anyways- lots of babies are nowhere near their official size, which is generally base don age/months.

  7. i just measured some baby clothes. a 6-12 mo zip-front cotton knit sweater (which which my average sized son wore until 14 or 15 months) was 9 inches wide across chest and 11 inches from the top of shoulder to base of hem (zipped closed and lying flat). a zip-front fleece that is labeled 12 months (but my 25 month old still fits into) is 11.75 inches wide and 12.5 inches from shoulder to hem. let me know if you want other measurements :)
