outside sun, inside sun

the weather keeps switching back and forth from spring to summer, and i'm really enjoying it. on the nice sunny days, we try to get outside to fly kites, ride bikes and sit in the grass. on the days that are cold and rainy, we enjoy all the inside house activities like knitting, reading, cooking, cleaning, and laundry. it's a good balance.

with the farmer's market season here, i've been on a search to find a lemonade recipe where you can make a cup at a time so i don't have to just sit and crave fresh lemonade on the non-market days. anyone know a good equation of lemons to simple sugar for a single serving?

  1. I love lemonade and limeade. I usually make up a batch of simple syrup (boil up equal parts sugar and water till the sugar is completely dissolved, then cool and store in a glass jar in the fridge). Then whenever I feel like a glass of lemonade, I squeeze one whole lemon/lime into a big glass (I like it quite lemony/limey) and add a few tablespoons of syrup, then top up with cold water and ice. Yum!

    You can even make flavoured simple syrup. My favourites are ginger and lemongrass, but herbs are really nice too. Just add 1/2 cup of chopped up "flavouring" to the hot syrup and let it simmer steep a bit, then strain out.

  2. thank you, thank you, thank you! i'm so glad you reminded me to add water, because as i was watching the lemonade guy at the farmers market make mine, i forgot that step! that would have been one SWEET lemonade. i'm also crazy about limeades, so i'm going to get myself into some big trouble this summer with this recipe!
