i've been on a search for a loooong time for a good pair of straight leg jeans. comfortable, not tapered and preferably not skin tight. since yet another clothing retailer closed 'round these parts where i can actually go try jeans on (yeah, economy!), i'm realizing that i'm going to have to order a pair online. this obviously broadens my options quite a bit and has me wondering where to start.
a couple months back, i ordered a pair of super slim jeans from lands end canvas, and unfortunately had to send them back. for the most part, the fit was great, there's just something about the taper of a super slim jean that doesn't work with these hips. i was wondering if the regular slim leg jean would be a better fit, but just noticed that the inseam is only 32". anyone have some suggestions for a reasonably priced (or at least, worth every penny) pair of straight leg jeans with some length on them babies?
I LOVE these. (Wearing them right now actually). And they come in 34" inseam for longer legs.

Those look awesome!!! I don't know why buying jeans online is so scary to me, but these look like they'd be worth it. Any suggestions on them running big or small? In the inseam too, since my size in the 34 is sold out. Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteI swear by J. Crew's matchsticks: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/denim/matchstick/PRDOVR~18191/18191.jsp The inseam is 33" which is perfect for my less-than-gamine legs. I wear a 4-6 in most pants - bought these in the 29/6 and good slim fit.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Express? They have jeans that go from the super-skinny to boot-cut, and generally carry 'long' sizes.
ReplyDeleteYes, Gap real straight! They're perfection, pretty true to size

(ooh, I think my next ones will be the Madewell, although maybe it's just the styling...)
i scored a pair of ann taylor modern skinny jeans at a thrift store last year and loved them so much i hunted down a second pair from ebay. they're definitely slim, but not tapered and not too low rise at all (which drives me nuts!). ReplyDeletei KNEW you guys would have some good ideas! keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteI second the J Crew matchstick jeans. I'm tall (5'10"), and they are the perfect length.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered the regular Lands End jeans in the Audrey Fit - They are pretty similar to the Canvas version (my Sears has the Lands End & Canvas depts & I've tried them both) but you can get them in the 34" length:

Plus right now I think they are 25% off. I might just have to run out & do some investigation & report back.

ReplyDeleteI'll second the gap 'real straight' - lots of length options, although their sizing is incredibly inconsistent; I have a regular and a long in the same size and the waist is quite different on them. I'd order all around your size and return some if you were going to try them. Good luck and let us tall girls know what you settled on!

I second the Madewell Rail Straights. They are the ONLY jeans that seem to be skinny but don't accentuate my hips. I wish they made them in a million colors, I'd buy them all!
ReplyDeletei was gonna say madewell rail straights as well! they can be worn tight, but also look fantastic a size or two bigger for a slouchier look. i will warn you though - different washes fit slightly different so dont be discouraged if you have to go up or down a size from what you normally wear.
ReplyDeletethey have discounts on denim every now and then. there are instore events called denim after dark where you can get 20% off a pair of jeans and sometimes they do special promos where certain washes and fits are even cheaper.
i have a pair of canvas j brands, but maybe they're too skinny for your purposes? the madewell rail straights are pretty good, too.
ReplyDeletei'm a third vote for j.crew matchsticks - i actually have the cords, not the jeans, but i love the fit. i also really like my downtown skinnies (jeans) but they may be a slimmer fit than you are looking for. both seem to have good length too (i'm 5'8"). ordering pants (especially jeans) online always seems a bit scary to me, but over the years i've found j.crew to be pretty reliable.
ReplyDeleteyou will die laughing at this one, but try something from qvc...just go to their website...here's why...they sell petite and tall...every price range, tons of designers, size, color, and if you find some you like, they always have stock, or will get it for you...and (get ready for it) you can try them, wear them, wash them, do anything you want in them for 30 days, and if you don't like them (FOR ANY REASON) send them back...hear me...send them back for a refund...terrific customer service...and fyi, same with SHOES!!! don't like? SSEND BACK. and they have lots of fun brands...just saying...
ReplyDeleteI found a great site for choosing jeans according to your morphology, unfortunately it's in French only. Here is the page using automatic translation: http://translate.google.fr/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jeansdenim.fr%2Fguide-jean-morphologie%2Fv-1%2F&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8
ReplyDeleteI tried it and my favorite, best fitting pair appeared in the results so it seems relatively reliable.
I second the recommendation for uniqlo. I always have trouble finding jeans that fit, but they have a wide range of waist and inseam sizes and I can always find something there.
ReplyDeleteI have JCrew matchstick cords and they're a nice straight fit.
ReplyDeleteI also like 7 for all mankind Kate. I don't think they make them anymore, but you can find them on ebay. I love Jacksonville, London, Barcelona, and Prague.
I have a super long inseam (36") and I feel like I could have a part-time job trying to find pants that fit well. I did buy a pair from Banana Republic at Christmas-time which have been incredible. I'm normally a size 10, so I got a 30long.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find a great pair, as I know how hard it can be!

I love the Gap always skinny jeans. I have always hated gap jeans, but these are soo good. Skinny legs but the waistline is high enough to reduce muffin top and they leave enough room for upper legs. They are so great.
