heck yeah, who wants a pair of socks?!

orange socks: knitpicks stroll in foliage
purple socks: bamboo + ewe in purple

i've got plenty to spare!  i have figured out how to knit socks on my knitting machine which has turned out to be a very dangerous thing.  i got so excited about my first pair turning out just the way i wanted them to, that i'm on my fourth pair.  good thing i have a basket of sock yarns to use up!  i knew that it was possible to knit socks on a flat-bed machine, but got so impatient trying to find a good pattern to use, i just made my own.  my first try worked out perfectly without even knitting up a test pair, which i can hardly believe.  i'm pretty sure that's one of the reasons why i'm on such a machine knit sock kick.

as far as yarn goes, i absolutely loved working with the knitpicks stroll in foliage that my mother-in-law recently sent to me.  it knit up so beautifully on my machine and the socks feel amazing.  a close runner-up was this bamboo/wool pair, although it's slightly more itchy.  i made them just a tiny bit loose since i don't like tight socks, and can't wait to see how they wash up.

we're enjoying a much needed quiet, restful weekend.  it's chilly outside and cozy in our home.  this week was full of challenges, ending on news that i need an operation that will hopefully improve my health.  i'm anxious, but much more than that, i'm relieved.  it's good to finally have some answers.

enjoy your weekend.  we get an extra hour of sleep tomorrow, which rocks.

  8. hi elly, good luck with your surgery! I'm glad it will mean better health, but it sounds like it was a rough week to get to that understanding. You'll be in my thoughts. Socks look amazing and so cozy! I've been away from my blog- challenging days for me too...but hei hello! x

  12. Your socks are amazing!!! I'm going to look up all the yarn you are using! Could you maybe tell me what machine you use? I had a knitting machine once but couldn't even knit anything straight in garter stitch!!! Don't know what your health problems are as I have only just become a fan of your blog, but whatever it is I wish you all the best for your upcoming op and speedy recovery.

  17. Okay, I have major knitting machine skill envy right now!! I would love to know how you made your socks! They are gorgeous. And I love that you used knitpicks yarn on your machine! I think I have some knitpicks sock yarn in my stash. Will have to play with the gauge.

I will keep you in my prayers, Elly! I hope your operation goes smoothly and you will be all better soon after! xo

  18. Elly, these are beautiful! And how gratifying to have your pattern work exactly as you intended on the very first try! I remember you writing a few posts back about how when you first decided to try machine knitting, you couldn't find a pattern to work with so you designed the sweater pattern yourself. I am sensing a trend here--perhaps you should think about publishing some of these patterns?! It seems like a lot of makers have caught on to machine knitting recently and I am sure others would appreciate your guidance.

I am thinking good, healthy thoughts for you. I hope that if you have not been feeling yourself for some time, that there is some comfort in your doctor having pinpointed the issue and now you can move forward to treat it. It's scary to think about how we take our health for granted, and push ourselves so hard, and when we are forced to slow down, it's no fun. Get well soon, and take care of yourself. All my very best wishes!!!

  20. I'm hand knitting socks now and I'm thinking this knitting machine would be a much better way to go. Love the orange socks but I seem to be on an orange kick at the moment.
I will be praying for you and will have the hope that you will be back to yourself again very soon!

  22. Elly, I've never commented on here but have been reading for quite some time. I just wanted to say, having been down the road of mysterious and chronic illness myself, that I hope that you figure out what is going on and start to feel better soon. It's a strange and unhappy experience to be in the limbo of knowing something isn't right but not being able to name it or really acknowledge it. My best wishes to you.
