over the weekend, i got quite ill. i was a little relieved to get so sick. i get that kind of flu only once every couple of years, so it was good to get it over with. i'm feeling a bit better now, almost eating regular meals and hoping the rest of the family avoids the same crud.
before i got knocked off my feet, i had been working on a comfortable dress for this ongoing winter freeze. my jeans have felt anything but comfortable lately, and when that happens, i always reach for a skirt or dress. since i have very few warm dresses that can be worn all year, i thought i'd give the cotton fleece i had on hand a chance. i was kind of expecting a super easy project, but it took quite a few alterations from my original pattern to get this dress to look even slightly like i hadn't slept in it, or was about to! i will say that the final product is very comfortable and warm, and i'm already trying it out again, this time with french terry.
Nice work on the dress, Elly! It is super cute -- I love the extra long sleeves. I am with you on dresses vs. jeans this winter -- I've been making and wearing loose-fitting dresses from Japanese sewing books for myself since it got cold, because they feel just so much better than jeans, and just as warm with a thick cardigan and a pair of tights! It hasn't occurred to me to try cotton sweatshirting though -- I've been doing non-pajama-looking flannel, which does get wrinkly if I nap in it! So, great idea :)
ReplyDeletecotton fleece and french terry sounds delightful. this winter has been super cold so this combo seems just the right remedy for warmth. pretty dress.
ReplyDeleteI love that dress! so cozy. I agree, dresses all the way. Jeans are driving me crazy by the end of the night.
ReplyDeleteoh man, i love this! i would wear that nonstop, that's exactly what feels so comfortable right now.
ReplyDeletewow, thank you! it's always the projects i almost don't post that people have the nicest things to say about! thanks for the encouragement, everyone!
ReplyDeleteglad to know I am not alone in the winter shift towards feeling way more comfortable in skirts. I love skirts all the time, but don't like it when I feel like they fit me better because of the winter weight. enough of winter!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so cosy! I love the idea if a fleece dress, and it looks chic too. I hope you find yourself 100% better soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better. That dress is adorable! And it looks so warm and cozy. I love visiting your blog. I've started trying to sew some clothes, and your creations are so inspiring!
